Educational
Assistance Program
Education
is the most precious possession one can have. Educating children
and youth yields spectacular benefits for the present and future
lives. Believing the important role of education in one’s
success, the American Association of the Philippines stands firm
to continue its Educational Program to its indigent and deserving
American dependents, many of whom were deserted by their American
fathers.
Most
of these children come from families with very low income so that
only their barest, physical needs are sufficiently met.
Usually the mother is a laundry woman, a household helper, a card
reader etc. Due to the poverty in the family, these students often
find themselves dropping out of school due to failure to submit
projects (cannot afford costs) and absenteeism due to health.
Having the burden of inadequate food and health problems, AAP
believes these students deserve our help.
AAP’s
aim is to get more children to school and that they are equipped
with basic knowledge for them to succeed in life and have a
rightful place in the society.
The
program is open for 3 levels: elementary, high school and college.
Assistance is in the form of payment of tuition or enrollment
fees, provision of basic school supplies during school opening and
monthly allowance for elementary & high school students to
cover transportation cost and school projects.
To
further hone the children’s abilities, AAP offers special
projects to its beneficiaries like its Computer program and
English tutorial program.

Medical
Program
A
healthy body is tantamount to a healthy mind. For one to be able
to function normally, one should be physically fit. AAP ensures
that its beneficiaries are given proper medical care. Assistance
is in the form of provision of medicines, hospitalization and
vaccination and other forms of life-saving services. AAP also
caters to clients with special medical needs i.e. chemotherapy.
Repatriation
Repatriation
is AAP’s ultimate goal for all its beneficiaries. The program is
geared towards getting them to the US for work and experience a
more decent living. American travelers who are in genuine need of
financial assistance in returning to the US are also considered
for this program. AAP works in coordination with the US
Embassy’s American Citizens Services Branch.
AAP
shoulders subsistence fees while repatriation is being processed
as well as payment of immigration fees and plane ticket. These
services are only given once the eligibility of the person for
assistance was established. Further, potential clients especially
those born and raised in the Philippines are being prepared
psychologically and socially, which deemed necessary for their
adjustment to the US.
Documentation
Services
Since
majority of our clients belong from families of lower
socio-economic status, from far-flung areas and are not aware of
their rights, AAP helps educate these families of their rights.
These children may be eligible for US
Citizenship, Child Support, Immigrant Visa, Social Security
Benefits and other application claims which AAP try to work on
their behalf.
Assistance
is in the form of securing pertinent documents, acting as an
“agent”, and doing follow-up on their respective cases.
Emergency
Loan
Recognizing
life’s uncertainty, AAP provides emergency loan assistance to
its clients who have financial crises. This is given on a
case-to-case basis depending on the severity of the case. Some of
our beneficiaries have paid us back, and others have forgotten.
The good thing is, we are able to help them in times of need and
help them ease their burden.
Tracing
Service
Since
majority of AAP’s clients are deserted by their American
fathers, the AAP, in partnership with the Philippine National Red
Cross, assists children in their quest of their roots. Contact
with other agencies which may be of help are also being tapped.
For
2006, AAP has located 3 fathers of our beneficiaries. One of them
has expressed to support his children, and possibly get them
repatriated to the US.
Temporary
Food Ration
This
assistance is being provided to families/individuals who have weak
physical condition, where working is not be possible, and no other
members of the family and relatives could provide for their needs.
Families with younger children normally receive this assistance as
these children are in the critical period of their development
where they need proper nourishment and care.
Food
& Pension Vouchers
AAP
keeps a revolving fund for pension vouchers and food coupons for
needy Americans who may appeal for food, medicines and temporary
lodging. These coupons are forwarded to the US Embassy at their
disposal.
Assistance
to the Prisoners
Recognizing
the person’s innate worth and dignity, AAP reaches out to
incarcerated Americans in the Philippines. AAP conducts prison
visits along with the US Embassy representatives to provide
material aid and legal assistance, as deemed necessary.
You
can help the AAP by donating reading materials such as magazines
and books, as well as used clothing and other items. AAP also
accepts old newspapers and directories for the prisoners’
livelihood program.

Christmas
Baskets
Every
Christmas season, AAP prepares Christmas baskets for its
beneficiaries – indigent American citizens and their dependents.
These beneficiaries receive Christmas baskets from our donors –
cash or in-kind donations. AAP also prepares individual gifts for
our children beneficiaries. For
most of them, the baskets are all they have for Christmas, so we
want them to be as special as possible.
The
event is highlighted by an interview of AAP Board members to our
beneficiaries, in an aim to learn more about their plight, and how
AAP assistance can help them.
During
this time, AAP also reaches out to a number of American prisoners
as well as patients in hospitals all over the Philippines. The
Christmas baskets are distributed to them in coordination with the
US Embassy.
