Success Stories and Accomplishments

Social Welfare Committee

I. Educational Assistance Program (EAP)

SY 2006-2007 was such a big success for AAP because of its 99% passing rate of our student beneficiaries. We have 5 successful graduates -1 elementary and 4 high school students. All these students received a start up budget and a monthly school allowance.

Our genuine thanks to our generous sponsors:

American Women’s Club of the Philippines
Mr. Bill Twinn
Mr. & Mrs. Shari Ballweg
Mr. & Mrs. Harry Mitthental
Mr. Rolf Beutel
Mr. John Perrine
Mr. John Melvin
Mr. & Mrs. Rex Roberts
Mr. & Mrs. William Epes

Without your support, we could not have made it this far!

This coming School Year 2007-2008, we are expecting more students, especially from Olongapo who are mostly deserted by their American fathers.

We need again your help!

For our past sponsors, renew your support!

II. Prisoners Program

AAP visited the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong, and the New Bilibid Prisons, April 3 and 11 respectively.
Toiletries were provided to them.

III. Repatriation Program

A 44-year old American was provided with emergency loan for payment of his immigration fees and fines.

IV. Updates on Special Projects
A. Art Workshop

Fourteen (14) young beneficiaries participated at AAP’s 1st summer art workshop, April 2 at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Derek Ross, in Pasig City. This half-day workshop was facilitated by 3 artists from Tatlong Araw, a non-profit organization of the arts.

Lessons provided were sketching and drawing objects using water color and pastel. The kids prepared their personalized cards for their sponsors as their main output for the workshop.

B. Reproductive Health Program/True Waits Camp

C. English Tutorial Program

Coordination with the De La Salle University’s Department of Linguistic and Applied Science is now underway.

Community Bloodline

AAP responds to emergency calls for RH negative blood, a very rare blood type in the Philippines and is common among expatriates.

For the month of April 2007, AAP received a total of 5 units of RH negative blood request from 3 patients.

1. First Patient was confined at St. Luke’s medical Center. AAP was able to immediately provide a donor for this.
2. Second patient is also from St. Luke’s Medical Center. One AAP donor was willing to donate for this patient. However, the donor was ill on the day that he is about to bleed. AAP informed the relatives right away.
3. Last patient was from Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center who needs three units of blood. She is about to undergo brain surgery. AAP’s new donor immediately responded to our call. The donor bled at Las Piñas Doctors’ Hospital.
